What can I expect in a session?
Every counseling session is unique and focuses on your specific needs and goals. What is it that you want to be different in your life? What tools do you want to learn to help you live your best life? During a session it is standard to talk about the primary issues and concerns in your life, and to work on learning and implementing new tools for more effectively dealing with them. Counseling can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues. Counseling often includes taking a look at things from your past that may be having an impact on current behavior or thought patterns. There may be times when you will be encouraged to take certain actions outside of a session, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records to track certain behaviors. Counseling is most effective when you are an active participant, both during and between the sessions.
